1)  In 1940 the National Council of Churches endorsed World Communion Sunday as a way of promoting Christian unity and ecumenical cooperation.  It is held on the first Sunday of October and focuses on the Eucharist, which we will celebrate on Oct. 2.  The UCC encourages its congregations to participate in its “Neighbors in Need” initiative on World Communion Sunday, which supports ministries of justice and compassion throughout the US.  One-third of NIN funds support the Council for American Indian Ministries.  Two-thirds of the offering is used by the UCC’s Justice and Witness Ministries to support a variety of justice initiative, advocacy efforts, and direct service projects through grants.  Sunday’s bulletin will include an envelop for NIN donations.  If you are moved to give, please make checks payable to TCC with NIN in the memo.  http://www.ucc.org/nin

2)  Last but not least, we are starting a 3-week study group in the Round Room tomorrow night.  Our theme tomorrow will be worship.  What is worship meant to accomplish?  Why is it patterned the way it is?  Why do we sing hymns?  What is a sermon supposed to be?  This will not be a lecture!  I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts about what is most meaningful to you about worship and why.  I’m also looking forward to engaging with you in a bit of sermon preparation.  In my experience these types of discussions about worship have a way of enhancing our worship experience by giving us a better understanding of the logic behind what we do on Sunday mornings.  It should be a fun discussion, and I hope you’ll be there!

Thanks, Tim
