Why We Embrace Beauty

Beauty, it’s often said, lies in the eye of the beholder. In today’s world, however, the beholding of beauty and recognition of its power to inspire awe, grace and, ultimately, a closer fellowship with Christ have largely waned in the face of increased social and political tensions, and the sometimes uncivil behavior generated by those tensions.

Trumbull Congregational Church believes that part of its ministry role is to serve as an alternative presence by encouraging beauty to be sought and revealed. Parishioners affirmed this stance in 2019, endorsing the words of former Pope Benedict, who said, “Authentic beauty unlocks the yearning of the human heart, the profound desire to know, to love, to go towards the Other, to reach for the Beyond.”

In this section of our website, members of the church gladly share with all visitors the many different ways beauty has expressed itself to them. It is our hope that through this collective act, we can not only build a greater sense of community, but also cultivate an openness to the surprising ways in which beauty appears, drawing us beyond ourselves into the sacred that surrounds us.
